Within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sets annual physician fee schedules and administers incentive programs such as MACRA.
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) administers certification programs of electronic health records (EHRs) and is increasingly establishing data exchange standards and interoperability timelines and governance impacting ambulatory and hospital care. The ONC also authorizes the funding of state and regional HIE programs.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also have established guidance and regulatory examinations of healthcare information technology. In addition, Congress has in the last two years put forth an unprecedented number of bills relating to physician payment, diagnostic coding, and physician incentive programs.
As a founding member of the Electronic Health Record Association (EHRA), Greenway Health has staff members who participate in EHRA committees focusing on public policy, exchange standards, patient safety, privacy and security, and other issues. The association maintains an ongoing dialogue with Congress and federal agencies formalized through public comment.
Individually, Greenway interacts directly with ONC and CMS staff, and conducts periodic visits to Congressional offices in Washington.
